Bi-fold Doors Edinburgh
Bi-fold doors are the foremost choice for homeowners who want to experience the natural light, and unobstructed view of the great Edinburgh outdoors and take up minimal space. Bi-folding doors differ from sliding doors in that they do not slide but fold into themselves like a concertina. This largely minimises its presence, keeping the entrance/exit to the outdoor space unobstructed.
Whether watching the snow fall with doors closed or extending your outdoor summer party with doors open, ProGlaze's bifold doors offer enhanced style and energy efficiency. Complete with strong glazing glass, they are coupled with multi-point locking systems for maximum security at absolutely no cost to style.

Bi-Fold Doors - Are they secure?
When looking at bi-fold doors, it’s perfectly reasonable to have questions about security. That being said, ProGlaze Group has the highest standard of security amongst home improvement companies. The following is why:
- Glazing – Double glazing and triple glazing does more than cut your energy bills into fractions, it adds an extra layer of security to your windows. They are two to five times stronger than a single glazing window, and have the innate ability to disperse impact force.
- Quality material – All frames used in construction by ProGlaze Group are made of the highest quality, dense materials. Stats on the following:
- Aluminium bi fold doors – Aluminium bifold doors are the strongest bi-fold doors on the market. The frames are strong and durable even whilst being very slim and keep their integrity over the years, requiring very low maintenance.
- Wooden bi fold doors – When paired against metal frames, wooden bi fold doors may seem like a much less powerful material – however this isn’t the case. Wood quality varies between trees, and will keep the integrity of your door.
- uPVC Bifold Doors – uPVC is perhaps the most popular of all door types, cost-effective and low maintenance – but still very strong. Furthermore, its corrosion resistant material makes it more durable in wet climates.
- Robust tracks – The unique sliding function of bi fold door tracks is reinforced through robust construction, meaning the doors cannot easily be dislodged from their set positions.
- Internal beading – Aside from glazing, we also offer the option of adding internal beading to your double glazing glass. Being installed on the inside of your frame, the internal beading makes it incredibly difficult to dislodge the glass.
- Multi-point locking systems – Finally, we have the locks. These systems offer locking mechanisms across different points in the frame, enhancing security and ensuring breakdown or tampering is next to impossible.
Why choose bi-fold doors?
There are a great many reasons you should choose bi-fold doors as an exterior door for your property:
- Reduced energy bills – Once again, double glazing, or triple glazing, both have massive benefits for your property. Around 10% to 15% of a building’s total heat escapes through exterior doors, and over the course of the average residential’s lifetime, a family spends over £1,250 on heating bills.
- Carbon footprint – By investing in energy efficiency measures for your home, you reduce the amount of carbon exiting into the atmosphere over your lifetime, thereby making the environment a safer, more eco-friendly place.
- Peace of mind – Our bi-fold doors are strong, and with the locking point systems and additional, optional security measures, you can rest easy in your home with full peace of mind.
- Extra light – Bifold doors let in a huge amount of natural light through the large glass panes, and even more should you fully open your doors.
- Modernity – Bifold doors are definitely a modern aesthetic, the perfect solution for those who prefer the slim, minimalistic stylings offered.

Bi-Fold Doors Edinburgh FAQs
What is the difference between bi-fold and sliding doors?
The difference between the two lies in opening mechanism, space usage and aesthetics:
- Opening Mechanism – Sliding doors, named sliding patio doors if placed externally, open differently compared to bi-fold doors. Sliding doors slide across a track, designed to open horizontally.
- Space usage – Sliding doors open on a track, with one panel retracting behind another. This means that you can only even make use of half of the door’s opening. Bifold doors open the entire width of the frame in comparison, folding into itself.
- Aesthetics – The aesthetics of sliding doors revolve around large glass panels, much like bi-fold doors. However, due to the ability to open up entirely, and having much smaller and slimmer frames, bi-fold doors are typically far better.
Do bi-fold doors offer soundproofing?
Bi-fold doors offer soundproofing depending on the glass used. Double glazing has two glass panes with air, or argon gas, infused between them. This creates a barrier for both heat loss and sound coming into your home. As a result, having bi-fold doors with triple or double-glazing glass offers similar levels of sound resistance to solid materials.
Furthermore, acoustic glazing is a specialised glazing option that is designed specifically for soundproofing, changing construction methods and materials to better suit blocking sound waves.
- Single glazing – Blocks up to 25-30% of external noise.
- Double glazing – Blocks up to 40-50% of external noise.
- Triple glazing – Blocks up to 50-60% of external noise.
- Acoustic glazing – Blocks up to 70% of noise.
Although solid materials will likely always be superior, you likely won’t need the sky high levels of sound resistance they offer in practice.
